Between Old Fort and The Red Fort is a city older than both… Built in 1354 this lesser known and seldom visited capital of Firoz Shah Tughlaq is often overshadowed by the mighty Mughal cities. But do you know it was the first fortified city on the banks of the river Yamuna!! That it’s mosque was so beautiful that it inspired the Great Timur to build a similar mosque in Samarqand! A grand capital indeed which is now believed to be the abode of Jinns…
Join us this Saturday as we relive the tale of Firoz Shah Tughlaq the reluctant sultan of Delhi. When Firoz was appointed as the ruler of Delhi he inherited an almost empty treasury and a disintegrating empire. Out of this the Sultan created a lasting legacy of justice scholarly traditions scientific artistic and historical processes and of course ingenuous architecture.
Firoz Shah is a model administrator in many respects; his reign sees infrastructure building on a large scale architectural advancements social change & welfare economics and most importantly the construction of a grand capital!
Let the “DelhiByFoot Time Machine” transport you to this lesser-known capital right in heart of Delhi which never ceases to amaze; with its numerous ruins of the then biggest Jama Masjid palace ruins an Ashokan pillar brought all the way from Haryana etc....while you listen to tales of this "Reluctant Sultan" and his nearly 4 decade long rule. Re-discover the mysteries and peculiarities of connections between spiritual mysticism and a sultan's administrative prowess...to a notion that maybe is more modern than we think it is !!!
