Brussels-based producer, multi-instrumentalist and DJ Kuna Maze aka Edouard Gilbert, creates a unique blend of jazz, nu-jazz, broken beat and house. Inspired by the thriving British jazz scene, he brings together jazz as a starting point with genres such as house and dub, experimenting freely and not shunning any boundaries. Despite these broad influences, his music always remains cohesive and recognisable. Although Kuna Maze usually composes and produces solo, he performs live with a band. His new album Layers, due out on 7 March 2025, was heavily influenced by his touring experiences with the band. He wanted to capture the energy and improvisation of the live show in an album that goes even further in its jazz influences, while retaining the power of electronic music. Instead of working with samples, he recorded his compositions with the band in the studio, to transfer the energy, emotion and spontaneity of his live performances to the record. Layers is an album that both comes into its own at home with deep listening and gives a taste of the energy of his live performances.
