Sedam tematskih sekcija raspoređenih tokom dva konferencijska dana otvaraju pitanja resocijalizacije kulture, samoorganizovanja i obrta pod dejstvom studentskog pokreta, participacije mladih u radu institucija, reinterpretacije kulturnog nasleđa i novih praksi zajedničkog učenja i povezivanja.
Institucije kulture valja vratiti u domen javnog i zajedničkog, a umesto tržišne logike i represivne kontrole uspostaviti nove modele kulturne proizvodnje i odlučivanja – zasnovane na autonomiji, javnom interesu i društvenoj savesti.
To je zadatak. Nema uzmicanja.
Dobro došli!

Conference
CULTURE BY STUDENT STANDARDS
University of Arts in Belgrade
November 3 and 4, 2025.
This year The University of Arts in Belgrade is organizing, for the first time, an interdisciplinary conference dedicated to youth culture, entitled Culture by Student Standards. The conference arises as a response to the decades-long decline of institutional culture in Serbia and the systemic marginalization of students as socially relevant actors. A particularly important impetus for organizing the conference can be found in the outcomes of program work of students during the blockade of the Student Cultural Center (SKC) in Belgrade - an institution that, according to its founding mandate, was meant to serve as a place of student cultural autonomy, but which has been the subject of institutional neglect and political misuse for years.
Culture by Student Standards brings together more than fifty researchers, artists, students, cultural theorists and collectives, including members of the Liberated SKC and other initiatives. Seven thematic sections, within two conference days, address questions of cultural resocialization, self-organization under the impact of the student movement, youth participation in institutional work, reinterpretation of cultural heritage, and new practices of shared learning and associating. We return to the key question - Who builds culture in this country: capital or community? And who could potentially build it? On the first evening, we discuss within the framework of the Chronicle of Student Cultural Centers (from autonomy to alienation), while the key event is reserved for the end, following The Atmosphere of a Day in the Liberated SKC. In addition to academic papers, the conference includes a range of artistic interventions and reflections stemming from experiences of collective organizing.
We expect the conference Culture by Student Standards to spark a dialogue about the future of student infrastructure, institutional autonomy and progressive cultural policy. In a time of widespread passivisation of public institutions, we seek new models of action, collaboration, and the conceptualization of cultural, educational, and social horizons.
Cultural institutions must be returned to the realm of the public and the collective, replacing market logic and repressive control with new models of cultural production and decision-making, grounded in autonomy, the public interest, and social conscience.
This is the task. There is no retreat.
Welcome!
