Hosted by Samahan Filipino American Performing Arts & Education Center, this workshop is part of an ongoing effort to preserve, honor, and share Indigenous Filipino musical traditions.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Farid Guinomla is a Kulintang master artist and cultural bearer from Datu Piang, Maguindanao del Sur, rooted in the musical lineage of the Laya people of Maguindanao. He is dedicated to preserving and sharing ancestral Kulintang traditions through performance, teaching, and cultural exchange.
Farid has performed at major national and international platforms, including Gongster’s Paradise in San Francisco, the Dayaw Festival at Manila’s Metropolitan Theater, and the Philippine Embassy in Beijing. In 2023, he was recognized at the Cotabato Artists Recognition Night for his contributions to traditional gong music.
In 2024, he released his debut album Kambasal sa Maguindanao under U.S.-based label Gongs Away Music, bringing Kulintang ensemble music from his family lineage to global audiences. A mentor and cultural ambassador, Farid continues to represent a new generation of Kulintang artists, with upcoming performances including the Frankfurt Book Fair 2025 in Germany.
