On November 18 the KU Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Matt Smith, will feature a concert of special collaborations. Through a partnership between the KU School of Music and the University of Costa Rica, SONSAX will be featured on Nelson Ramírez’s Concerto for Saxophone Quartet.
SOSNAX has become one of the most influential saxophone ensembles in Latin America, having performed hundreds of concerts around the world.
The Wind Ensemble is proud to also welcome Esteban Batallán as the Bob and Becky Foster Trumpet Artist in Residence. Esteban Batallán currently holds the position as principal trumpet of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and will perform the Trumpet Concerto by Alexander Arutiunian.
The program will also include Splinter by composer Holly Harrison with graduate conductor Josie Jones.
