Learn the art of crafting lockets and boxes from sterling silver! This class is one in a series of locket making metalsmithing classes- they are all stand alone classes and can be taken in any order. This is beginner to intermediate-level class and will utilize basic silver soldering, using jewelry files, pliers, and box making techniques. This class is the Swivel Hinge locket where students use tubing and a rivet on the lid to create a locket that rotates open. Students will add a bead and loop clasp to hold the locket closed and a bail to hang the locket from. (Locket can be kept as a small keepsake box, if preferred)
Students will learn how to create the walls for the locket, the lid, the rivet and the clasp. Soldering, riveting, and finishing techniques will be covered. The class kit includes all materials for the base locket with a 1 inch x 1 inch max size. Students are welcome to embellish their locket with bezel set stones, solderable elements, etc but the project may not be completed in the class time if embellishing.
