In this exhibition, Who I Talk To When You Are Not Here, absence transforms into an invitation for conversation. Musicians respond to the paintings with improvised soundscapes, filling the silent space between the artist’s work and the viewer. Much like the Indian concept of dhvani, where meaning resonates beyond what is spoken or seen, this exhibition becomes a living space where absence is not empty, but a vibrant conversation in sound and image.

Kristjan Kannukene has moved through various landscapes as a musician. His background in classical and rock music has opened up vast opportunities in Estonia and abroad, from performing Bach's violin concerto with an electric guitar and improvising a rock solo with a viola in front of the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra to collaborating with contemporary dancers and theater. Kannukene has performed his compositions at Wigmore Hall in London and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, among others, and released his debut album "333". Currently, his focus is on finding the symbiosis of voice and viola and connecting it with other art forms.
Kannukene graduated cum laude from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre in classical viola under Toomas Nestor, also studying composition with Toivo Tulev, and is currently pursuing a master's degree in contemporary improvisation under Anne-Liis Polli and Anto Petti. In 2018/2019, she completed her viola studies at Trinity Laban Conservatoire in London with Rivka Golan. She has also participated in master classes with Nobuko Imai, Garth Knox, Lawrence Power, Geneviève Strosser and others.
