Krampus is a figure from Central European folklore, known as the dark counterpart to Saint Nicholas. While Saint Nicholas rewards well-behaved children with gifts, Krampus punishes those who are naughty. He is often depicted as a fearsome, horned creature carrying chains, a bundle of birch sticks (called ruten), and sometimes a sack or basket to carry off bad children.Where did he come from?
