About this Event
Difficulty: Moderate/Easy
Appropriate for: All ages, but some hiking on light inclines will be required to reach the meadow.
Leader: Kyle McGrath
About the Outing Leader: Kyle is a local history enthusiast, lifelong "nature guy," and a board member of the Friends of the Fells.
About the Outing: A hike through the Lawrence Woods to the 90mm Meadow north of Ram's Head Hill, site of a Korean War-era anti-aircraft artillery base. We will discuss the history of the site and its context in the Cold War, identify the visible remnants of the base, and discuss both the meadow's present-day importance as habitat and the Friends of the Fells' efforts to preserve and restore it.
We will be meeting at the Medford High School parking lot, by the Mustang Loop trailhead.
Steady rain, snow or stormy winds cancel.
Contact: Contact Kyle McGrath ([email protected]) or [email protected] with questions.
