SHOW SYNOPSIS AND OUR PRODUCTION
FADE IN: The open ocean, 1974. Filming is delayed… again. The lead actors – theatre veteran Robert Shaw and young Hollywood hotshots Richard Dreyfuss and Roy Scheider – are crammed into a too-small boat, entirely at the mercy of foul weather and a faulty mechanical co-star. Alcohol flows, egos collide, and tempers flare on a chaotic voyage that just might lead to cinematic magic… if it doesn’t sink them all. Step aboard the Orca and into THE SHARK IS BROKEN, a “profound dive behind the scenes of the making of JAWS” (The Daily Telegraph, ★★★★). This Olivier Award-nominated new play is “hilariously brilliant and pure genius”raves the Sunday Express (★★★★★). THE SHARK IS BROKEN celebrates movie history and peeks at the choppy waters behind Hollywood’s first blockbuster. Short tempers. Short circuits. The script’s co-writer, Ian Shaw, is the son of JAWS star Robert Shaw. THE SHARK IS BROKEN was selected as part of Korda’s second public call for production proposals and will be directed by frequent Korda collaborator Rachel Hillis.
“A wild ride worth taking.” – Entertainment Weekly
“So vivid you can almost smell the salt air.” – Deadline
“Sensational! In between jokes and tasty movie trivia, this is a story of fathers, sons, mortality, and legacy.” – Mashable
“THE SHARK IS BROKEN wittily excels not just as a clever time capsule, but as an examination of male bonding and competitiveness, ego, frailty, fame, and filmmaking.” – The Daily Beast.
Available Roles
All roles are available and listed below.
-ROBERT SHAW: (45+) A charismatic, boisterous, macho Englishman, as well as a semi-functional alcoholic. Shaw's substance abuse issues make him mean-spirited, but he is also capable of wisdom and gratitude in his own way. Clashes heavily with Dreyfuss.
-ROY SCHEIDER: (35-45) The most professionally and emotionally stable of the three men. Scheider is kind, patient, and paternal, and his main goal throughout the play is to keep Dreyfuss and Shaw from killing each other.
-RICHARD DREYFUSS: (20-30): The youngest and most inexperienced of the three men. Dreyfuss is at the beginning of his career, and his obnoxious, brash, high-energy exterior masks a deep vulnerability and an eagerness to please. Clashes heavily with Shaw.
PLEASE NOTE:
Age ranges are suggested, but are somewhat flexible.
PLEASE NOTE:
