With the recent opening of Mirrorball Ministries in West End, Kooii has the opportunity to again bring their music to a place deeply significant to the band’s inception and the shaping of their sound. This year marked 20 years since the release of their debut album Beads on a String and has passed without much recognition of that milestone. In fitting alignment, as the year comes to a close, the group’s original drummer, Dom Hede, will be returning to the heartbeat of the band, vortexing the rhythms and cultivating the feels, together with core songman and trumpeter Peter Hunt, bass player Tommy Sexton, Travis Jenkins and Linden Lester on guitars, Nic Campbell on sax and keyboards, and some special guest percussionists.
It’ll be an opportunity to invigorate your creativity and dance fluidly in the field of their African, neo‑soul and reggae‑fed music.
With themes of seeking and finding belonging threaded through Peter’s compositions, the creative forces and musicality of all the members open up the journey, taking the music wherever their imaginations lead.
They’ll play two sets, enjoying the freedom to play and to be part of establishing Mirrorball Ministries as a meeting place for connection and vitality in the heart of West End.
