Verboden Arts Presents:KONTRAVOID with guests: MVTANT, I SPEAK MACHINE, & TOTAL CHROMA
Live at The Cobalt Cabaret.
Oct 17th 2024
Kontravoid (LA/Toronoto)
Kontravoid’s masked mystique has remained for over a decade. Ever since the release of his self-titled LP in 2012, the Canadian-born, LA-based Cameron Findlay has perfected dark pop with a unique composition which moves eloquently through the EBM, electro and goth genres. His past releases, such as 2019’s “Too Deep” and 2021’s “Faceless,” have no trouble reaching the most derelict corners of foggy, strobe-lit clubs, leaving listeners with no choice but to dance. With an uncanny softness and unmistakable songwriting ability, Kontravoid composes heart-wrenching songs that are both captivating and drenched in melancholy – showcased on 2018’s “Undone”, which has been lauded as a fan favorite since its release.
On stage, Kontravoid demands the audience’s attention with his powerful performance, masterfully balancing his specific concoction of harsh beats and signature rhythmic bass lines. He’s toured alongside Boy Harsher, ADULT., Drab Majesty and HEALTH, and has remixed the likes of Schwefelgelb and Kris Baha. Truly a man of the shadows, Kontravoid is an unparalleled fixture in the dark electronic arena.
MVTANT (San Antonio TX)
Mutant Body Horror.
Mvtant was conceived as a cassette tape industrial project: motorik lines pulse out of analog synthesizers and dreamy primitive digital workstations.
I SPEAK MACHINE (LA)
I Speak Machine are vocalist and synth-nerd Tara Busch and filmmaker Maf Lewis. Together, they make brooding soundtracks and horror/sci-fi films, creating audio and visual in unison to give both elements equal prominence.
Total Chroma (Vancouver)
the solo project of the producer behind Wire Spine and Weird
Candle, presents a unique blend of classic EBM and Darkwave infused with mutant rhythms and unconventional arrangements. Its sounds are influenced by the exploration into its creator’s Sami heritage, his experiences in mental health outreach and rehabilitation, and the rugged landscape of the desert where he spent his formative years.
His lifelong passion for exploring science fiction and occult literature informs his songwriting, resulting in lyrics that traverse the realms of off- beat fantasy, metaphysics, occultism, and surrealist poetry. This fusion of influences creates an eurythmic experience that is both captivating and enigmatic.
Isku, the creator of these energetic dance songs, is also known for Vancouver’s annual Verboden Music Festival. Total Chroma appeals to fans of Martin Dupont, Cabaret Voltaire, Qual, and more.
