Get that Hawaiian shirt out of the back of your closet and let's step into the mid century retro kitschy tiki vibe that is Kon Tiki.I am excited to step back in time with you for this happy hour. The Google reviews are overwhelmingly positive regarding ambiance, service, and drinks.
"Kon Tiki's interior resembles a luxurious hut, with deep red carpets, bamboo furniture, large fish floats, and Japanese parasols that double as lampshades which still hang to this day. In fact, today most of Kon Tiki’s interior is original to it’s grand opening. It is even home to the largest collection of Milan Guanko (an elite 1950s-1960s Tiki carver) totems in the world." - The Rise of Tiki, Kon Tiki website
Happy hour is from 4-7pm weekdays. Small appetizer menu. Large cocktail menu w/ non-alco drinks too! https://www.kontikitucson.com/copy-of-merch.
Fun fact 1: Kon Tiki's grand opening took place in 1963. And it is is one of the few original Tiki bars still open for business.
Fun fact 2: Tucson's first Tiki bar was Pago-Pago, which opened in the 1940s along Miracle Mile. It featured an atrium with live parrots, turtles and monkeys.
We'll meet at the bar. As usual.
