About this Event

The Knowledge Hub brings together experienced professionals through presentations to help charitable organizations gain and utilize knowledge to make their practice more efficient, effective, productive, and result oriented.

Join us on Thursday March 23 from 5:30pm to 9pm EDT at the Old Mill in Toronto to learn valuable information in the Not-For-Profit sector and network with the community.

This seminar will be of interest to volunteers, advisors, lawyers, accountants, administrators and directors of religious, charitable and not-for-profit organizations.

Speakers

This event will have three expert speakers: Bohdana Bashuk, Taras Kulish, and Victor Lishchyna.

Bohdana Bashuk, the executive director of the Shevchenko Foundation, will present "Securing Funding for Your Project: A Guide to Grant Writing".

This presentation provides an overview of the grant writing process, including key steps such as developing, submitting, and managing the proposal. Attendees will learn how to increase their chances of securing funding for their projects by understanding the criteria and requirements of funding opportunities, as well as how to effectively communicate the goals and impact of their project or program.

Taras Kulish, a lawyer from Mills & Mills LLP, will present "Major Changes in 2022: Working with Partners and Disbursement Quotas ".

Prior to Budget 2022, the Income Tax Act only allowed a charity to operate/use its resources in two ways: 1) Carrying on its own charitable activities; and 2) Making gifts to qualified donees. Since June 2022, charities can now make Qualifying Disbursements to a Non-Qualified Donee Grantee Organization. This presentation will review these important changes and how it affects the work of a charity using partners, in particular with partners in Ukraine. We will also look at the new prohibition on Directed Gifts and changes to the disbursement quota.

Victor Lishchyna, a lawyer from Mitchell Bardyn & Zalucky LLP, will present "Tips and Traps For Gifts to Charities In A Will".
