Discover Knitting in Nature, a new program—where creativity, wellness, and the outdoors beautifully converge.
About this Event

Woven from fiber artistry and the core threads of DeKalb County Recreation, Parks & Cultural Affairs—care for people, care for place, and shared access to nature—this experience invites participants to slow their pace and engage the landscape through texture, color, pattern, and place.

Recommended Ages

This program is designed for adults and older youth, but all ages are welcome.

What We’ll Do

Participants will take part in a gentle, reflective walk along the Michelle Obama Trail, where smooth pathways and the steady presence of the South River shape the experience. This setting invites exploration of how movement, flow, and repetition influence traditional fibers, patterns, and creative expression. Thoughtfully guided prompts and quiet observation moments encourage participants to notice how lines, rhythms, light, and water inform texture, color, and design—revealing how handmade arts often mirror the landscapes that support them. The program concludes with a communal moment for knitting, pattern sharing, and a yarn swap, offering space for connection, exchange, and creative reflection.

Walking Distance / Physical Activity Level

Approximately 1.5–2 miles of slow-paced walking with brief periods of standing and light terrain changes.

Accessibility (ADA Statement)

DeKalb County Recreation, Parks & Cultural Affairs strives to make all programs accessible to persons of all abilities. If you require reasonable accommodations, please contact the program organizer at least 48 hours in advance.
