
About this Event
In knitting 101, participants will learn the basics of knitting, pattern reading and project planning. In this 5 week class, we will learn two knit stitches and work on a knit beanie! The ideal attendee is someone who has never picked up knitting needles.
Who you are: You are brand new to knitting, and do not have any prior experience. Everyone is welcome!
Class Structure: Hands-on knitting class with textile expert Keelin Maloney. Keelin will work one on one with participants and give several demonstrations and written instructions weekly. You will meet with 7 other learners once a week for 5 weeks!
Class Curriculum:
Meeting one: Holding needles, casting on. Go over knit stitch
Meeting two: Practice knit stitch, go over purl stitch.
Meeting three: Practice counting rows, go over patterns.
Meeting four: Knit base of hat
Meeting five: Complete hat!
This course's classes are: Sunday 10/19, 10/26, 11/2, 11/9 and 11/16 from 4pm-6pm.
What to Bring:
Paper and pen for counting, scissors.
What's Provided:
Yarn, knitting needles, and patterns. Participants should bring scissors and notes to class.
Outcomes: Participants will create a knit pompom beanie in a jersey knit stitch. They will gain foundational knitting skills needed to explore new projects and patterns!

Meet your teacher
Keelin is a Providence native, textile lover, and host of our knitting club! She has a background in hand knitting, machine knitting, weaving and natural dyeing. Her years in fine art school have lead her to create knit collections and participate in local sustainable fashion projects.
