To celebrate the opening of You Stretched Diagonally Across It: Contemporary Tapestry, Los Angeles-based vintage textile library and shop Kneeland Co. will activate the DC shop with a special selection of ceramics, textiles, jewelry, and collectibles.
Founded by Joanna Williams in 2010, Kneeland Co. curates a unique collection of globally sourced, one-of-a-kind pieces that bridge history, craftsmanship, and contemporary design. Join us for a day of shopping and discovery, followed by a special talk with Joanna Williams at 5:00 PM on the influence of textiles, travel, and curation in her work.
About the Exhibition
Opening April 11, You Stretched Diagonally Across It: Contemporary Tapestry explores the enduring relevance of tapestry in contemporary art. Featuring works by 30 artists and designers and curated by Su Wu, the exhibition examines how artists engage with the tactility, mythology, and image-making of this ancient medium in the modern world.
Exhibiting artists include: Caroline Achaintre, El Anatsui, Hellen Ascoli, Yto Barrada, Diedrick Brackens, Melissa Cody, Negma Coy, Jovencio de la Paz, Josh Faught, Christina Forrer, Sanaa Gateja, Yann Gerstberger, Marie Hazard, Ane Henriksen, Kira Dominguez Hultgren, Sanam Khatibi, Tomasz Kowalski and Alicja Kowalska, Candice Lin, Goshka Macuga, Christy Matson, Jorge Méndez Blake, Mai-Thu Perret, Sarah Rosalena, Analia Saban, Lee ShinJa, Kiki Smith, Mika Tajima, Clarissa Tossin, Consuelo Jiménez Underwood, and Miranda Fengyuan Zhang.
Come explore the intersection of art, craft, and contemporary storytelling, and discover a selection of limited-edition pieces inspired by the exhibition, available only through Kneeland Co.’s activation.
