Come and sit a while. Bring your tools and your stone and a box of bandages and have a wonderful time in the forest. Gary Pickett will bring back this family friendly gathering. Potluck meals, camping and glamping (sleeping inside the school), and the peaceful plink plink plink of stone flecks flying all weekend. We are located in the Angeles National Forest, 30 miles above La Canada Flintridge off of Angles Crest Highway, State Route 2. There are no services such as food or gasoline in the area. You may not have cell phone or internet service so please map out the direction ahead of time.
This is a relaxed, calm weekend where the only pressure is that which gets applied to flakes.
Chilao School is a clean and sober environment.
We are located at an elevation of roughly 5,500 feet. It can be hot, cold, windy, sunny, still, cloudy, wet, dry and perfect all in one day. We have the full compliment of local native wildlife residing in the area and we are recommended by the Audubon Society as an excellent birding location.
The pin on the event map is accurate. However, as of June 4 we need to take a detour to get to the school. The detour is over Upper Big Tujunga Canyon. I will post specific directions soon. If you are coming from the high desert it won't affect you because you should be coming over Upper Big Tujunga Canyon anyway. If you are coming from Wrightwood or the Los Angeles basin, you'll need to learn the detour.
