About this Event

"When we cook for others, or ourselves, the deepest hunger we feed is love".

If someone lovingly mentions classic French country dining or paddock to plate cuisine or a long lunch in the country - odds on they are talking or thinking about Annie Smithers.

Annie's restaurant du Fermier, in the small village of Trentham, features a menu du jour based on classic French farmhouse cooking, using vegetables harvested that day from her kitchen garden, and local meats and poultry. It's one of the harder places to get a bookings - simply because its loved by locals and non-local foodies alike, many of whom make a pilgrimage to sit at her table.

'A beautiful Australian who feeds our hearts and souls.' Virginia Trioli
Not content with two lovely (and very collectible) cookbooks, a book of food writing, a regular column with the Saturday Paper and a regular spot on Radio National, Annie has somehow managed to find the time to write a warm, personal and revealing memoir, telling us why she cooks.

In Kitchen Sentimental, Annie revisits all the significant kitchens and mentors in her culinary life, sharing with engaging honesty her personal development, her surprisingly complex relationship with food, and the lessons she has learned along the way. And of course there are recipes...

We are very much looking forward to sharing this warm and enaging memoir with you. As usual we will be cooking from the book and serving up tastes.

Please join us on Monday 16th September for a wonderful intimate conversation with beloved author and chef Annie Smithers

Tickets are limited.
