Your local Elves (ahem Gurus) want to help you “Deck the Halls” and get you into the holiday spirit at our newest event series – Kissing Ball Making at the Brewery! Kissing Balls date back to the Middle Ages, when people would wind evergreens together in a ball shape and hang these “holy boughs” in doorways to offer blessings to all who passed beneath. Centuries later, this traditional decor is making a big comeback and adorning homes with a modernized take on this classic Christmas decoration. Join us for a very special evening featuring locally crafted beer, delicious food, a kissing ball making class, and some holiday cheer!
On select Thursdays in December – our festive filled evening will take place at Bad Weather Brewing Company, who’ve been brewing up a wide range of delicious craft beers for over a decade! Here, your GetKnit Gurus will be awaiting your arrival and get you checked in for a festive and fun night together. After you get settled in, you’ll be welcomed to order up an included craft beer, seltzer, or non-alcoholic beverage of your choice from Bad Weather’s diverse line-up. With beverage in hand we’ll enjoy a scrumptious dinner from our old friends at Gastrotruck, who’ve been creating delicious, locally sourced food for over 14 years throughout the Twin Cities. For dinner, we’ll be treated to your choice of one of their house-made hot sandwhiches served with crisp kettle chips and a fresh Caesar salad made with kale, mixed greens, radish, parmesan, croutons and home-made dressing. At time of registration you’ll be able to choose between their Jerk Pulled Pork Sandwich: Pulled pork with jerk seasoning, coconut lime aioli, spicy pickled vegetables, greens , and served on a bun; Grilled Chicken Sandwich: Thai red curry coconut braised grilled chicken, ginger aioli, slaw, greens, and served on a bun; or the Black Bean Burger: Black bean burger with chipotle aioli, lettuce, tomato and served on a bun.
After we eat and drink our fill, we will be ready to learn a new craft and create a take-home kissing Ball made up of fresh cut Balsam Fir boughs (branches) with accent greenage of Red Cedar, White Pine and Nobel Fir from our local landscaping pals, Mickman Brothers. We’ll first get a demonstration from our Local Gurus on how to put together our kissing balls, and orient ourselves with all the materials used in creating these festive decorations. Then we will test out our new skills and get to work like a busy little elf! Depending on where you plan to hang your kissing ball, you can make your creation anywhere from 12″ to 24″+ in diameter, to make this festive addition the perfect complement to your other holiday decor. In addition to the needed boughs to create your kissing ball, you’ll also receive all materials needed to create these seasonal masterpieces from the foam ball at it’s core, to the wire used to hang it and the ribbon and berries to help customize your kissing ball.
To top off our night, we will be treated to a flavorful cookie tray from veteran owned and operated – Sergeant Shortbread – which will serve as the perfect pairing to our festive and fun evening together!
