Dr Valerio will talk about his latest research focused on Black lay Catholic brotherhoods or confraternities and Afro-creole festival practices in colonial Latin America. He will also discuss his multi-award-winning and highly acclaimed book, Sovereign Joy: Afro-Mexican Kings and Queens, 1539-1640.
