Kisatchie Fly Fishers meetings are held the 4th Monday of each month, except December.. Time is 6:30pm, location is the Rapides Westside Library. The public is welcome!For our August 25th meeting, we have a special guest and program. Susan Brooks is Program Manager for Casting for Recovery - Southeast Region. Susan will give a presentation on CFR, and the work they are doing across the Southeast. Everyone interested is welcomed to attend.
Casting for Recovery is a national program that empowers women in treatment or recovery from breast cancer through oncology-informed retreats. These retreats connect women to each other and to nature using the therapeutic sport of fly fishing, and are offered at no cost to participants. About Our Speaker: A native of Kentucky, Susan has a degree in Wildlife Management from Murray State, and a M.S. in History from Mississippi State. She lives in Starkville, MS, with her husband and kids and grandkids and furbabies. Susan herself is a breast cancer survivor who began volunteering with CFR after attending a Southeast Regional fly fishing retreat in 2018. She fell in love with fly tying and turned that passion into a business, Damselflies, where she sells (impressive) hand-tied flies. She is also a published author.
