The ancient practice of Kirtan (call and response chanting) is a heart opening practice that helps us to come out of our busy heads and into our hearts, deepening our connection with ourselves, the world around us and others.
Kirtan is one of the 8 limbs of yoga known as Bhakti Yoga or the Yoga of Devotion. In this practice we come together to chant mantras, often in the sacred language of Sanskrit.
Through the powerful sound and vibration of the mantras we can find ourselves going into deep meditative states and experiences of stillness and joy.
This practice can help us to connect with the very best of ourselves, whilst giving strength and courage to face challenges in our life.
The practice itself is the teacher and no experience is necessary, it is not a practice of musical ability but a practice of the heart and everyone is welcome.
Chanting is a way of getting in touch with yourself. It is an opening of the heart and letting go of the mind and thoughts. It deepens the channel of Grace, and its way of being present in the moment; Krishna Das.
Nitya is delighted to be joined by her dear friend Rama.
Nitya and Rama have a deep experience and love of Bhakti Yoga and devotional chanting. They both embrace the heart centred practice of Kirtan with many years of experience. Rama brings his beautiful voice, heart and also guitar and a drum to play alongside Nitya, it is always a journey and is lead intuitively in response to the group, we always have a lot of fun and everyone is welcome!
Like Nitya, Rama became deeply connected to the many benefits and the power of mantra and chanting. Feeling deeply drawn to this transformational healing practice, Rāma travelled throughout India spending time in ashrams and retreat centres, further immersing himself in yogic disciplines and continuing to embrace the heart centred practice of Kirtan.
