About this Event
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
Join us for an interactive and immersive musical experience.
Kirtan is call and response chanting, a musical meditation, that offers a devotional practice which helps to uplift the mind, open the heart and bring inner peace. Singing within a group offers the opportunity to experience a oneness and heart connection with the music, the other group members, and oneself. In this workshop we will learn about the history of Kirtan, understand the benefits of developing a chanting practice, study the words, melody & meaning of several simple popular Sanskrit and English chants, as well as chant together to experience the benefits of practicing in a group setting. Participants will receive a list of resources to continue their learning and deepen their practice beyond the workshop. All levels welcome. No prior music experience is necessary.

MacKenzie is a Pacific Northwest native who grew up playing classical piano and then spent the majority of two decades living overseas in Asia and India, where studied yoga and Vipassana meditation. Through an experience with Kirtan she discovered the healing power of the voice as well as the benefits of this musical mediation practice. She became called to share it with others, as a platform to build community, offering musical accompaniment to yoga studio classes, workshops, and Kirtan gatherings throughout the Puget Sound. She lives in the woods on the edge of the Olympic Peninsula where she hosts retreats, offering space for self development work and communing with nature.
