Skidaway Community Church warmly invites you to experience the one-of-a-kind Kirkin’ O’ The Tartans worship service, a celebration of Scottish Presbyterian heritage.Event Highlights:
- The stirring sound of bagpipes will lead a grand procession of family tartans, proudly displayed throughout the sanctuary.
-Scottish prayers and a reading of scripture in Scottish brogue will be led by Pastor Jon Hauerwas and honored guests, celebrating a rich and cherished heritage.
-Traditional Scottish hymns sung by the congregation and special music will celebrate a rich and cherished heritage.
-Following the service, the celebration will continue with a reception featuring Scottish tea, shortbread, and refreshments.
Historical Significance:
First held in 1941 to rally support for Scottish churches during WWII. Rooted in a 1745 tradition, when clans secretly wore tartans after the government outlawed them. By the late 18th century, tartans became symbols of clan pride and Scottish patriotism.
Everyone is invited to be a “Scot for a day” by dressing for the occasion. All worshippers are invited to wear their tartans with pride!
