Here's how food critic Grace Dent describes Kirkgate Market; it " is a joyful thing, and an unusual one. Old-school butchers and fishmongers, clothes stalls and spice vendors live happily side by side with Vietnamese banh mi sellers, a florist and a woman who sells knitting wool."

It's considered of local, national and international importance. The 1904 Hall has been called, "one of the finest examples of market hall architecture", by the US historians Schmiechen and Carls.
