ARMY BUILDING GUIDELINES:
Armies from the 4th Edition Kings of War rulebook, The Invasion supplement book, and the Mantic Companion may be used. The points level will be 2,150.
NEW THIS YEAR: Because this is the first event under the 4th Edition rules, and because I have no idea how 4th edition works yet, there will be no special rules. The whole 4th Edition ruleset are the special rules. That’s it. We’ll get creative next year…
Army lists must be submitted by Monday, January 12th, 2026. All lists must be generated using the Mantic Companion App (found at: https://companion.manticgames.com/ ) and have the PDF output submitted to the tournament organizer via email to [email protected]. After lists have been reviewed for legality, they will be released publicly to all players. Any lists that are submitted after the deadline will get a 5 point tournament score penalty. Please be kind, and get your stuff to me on time so that I can set matchups, post lists and do other pre-tourney stuff.
TIME CLOCKS, ROUND TIME & DICE DOWN:
Time Clocks will be required, (65 minutes per player), each player should be sure to bring one. The total time allotted for each round will be 2.5 hours.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
You must bring everything you need to play a complete game - FAQ(s), a copy of your Army Rules, dice, tape measure, etc. 6 Copies of your army list are REQUIRED.
Battle Scoring: No Idea
We’ll figure it out once the full scenario rules are released, but 100 points will be available for battle. I’ll send notifications to everyone who signs up as we get closer to the event on what I decide on. My initial thought is that it will be modified win/loss/draw, but it will probably only be adjusted based on scenario points, not attrition. (If you’re building an army list based on the possible point spread, you’re too much of a try-hard for this event anyway).

PAINTING, MODELLING:
40 paint points will be available to contribute to overall scoring for the event. Because this is the first event after the new army construction rules, proxies will be allowed for core units. In addition, core units don’t need to be painted, and those unpainted minis don’t count toward your paint score.
All minis must be assembled and placed on the appropriate base size. (Rebase all those characters from 20/25mm to 40/50mm bases! Unpainted character bases also won’t count against your paint score.) An army with any other unpainted miniatures will score 0 for paint. A model will be considered “painted” if it contains at least three colors, not counting primer/undercoat, and the bases must be painted or flocked. Painted armies will score at least 15 points. Mantic models are NOT required, but the models used MUST accurately represent the game piece it is being used for.
SPORTSMANSHIP:
25 total points will be available for sportsmanship. Sportsmanship is always a very important factor in our events. We are playing a game and any blatant unsportsmanlike behavior will not be tolerated.
3 sports points will be available for each round, as scored by your opponent, centered around clean play. (See the section below for examples of Clean Play).
In addition, all players will be asked to rank their favorite (worth 2 additional points) and second favorite opponent (worth 1 additional point) at the end of the event.
CLEAN PLAY:
The concept of Clean Play in Kings of War can be summed up by clearly stating your intention in every phase of the game, so as to avoid confusion for your opponent. Examples of clean play include:
• Talking through your dice rolls by stating what units you are rolling dice for,
• Rolling dice where they can be clearly seen by your opponent, and removing your misses from the pile before rolling to wound,
• Answering questions about your units truthfully and completely,
• Announcing your unit’s location in relation to other units. (For example, telling your opponent that you are intentionally placing a unit outside of charge range of one of his units), and getting agreement from your opponent before moving on.
• Clearly measuring ranges and unit movements. (No “wandering tape measures”),
Please mark your unit’s initial position prior to moving them or bring unit templates that you can use to measure out tricky maneuvers and get mutual agreement from your opponent before you move a unit. If a situation arises where a judge is required to rule on the positioning of a unit, and its original location was not marked, then it is impossible for the judge to make an accurate ruling. We will have no choice but to automatically rule against the person who did not mark their unit’s position.
TERRAIN PLACEMENT RULES:
We plan on having enough terrain for twenty four standard tables. Preset maps will be provided for each scenario.
CHARITY RAFFLE
Similar to last year, we’ll be having a prize-laden raffle to support Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (Now known as Breakthrough T1D). Over the past three years we have raised over $6,700 for JDRF. This is a testament to the generosity of the Kings of War Community, and George Vasilakos, the owner of the Fortress of Gaming. In short, you guys are awesome.
