King Hammond is Grammy award winning singer, songwriter & musician Nick Welsh. In a four decade + career in ska & reggae, Nick has worked with some of the biggest names in the genre’s history, including Prince Buster, Laurel Aiken, Rico Rodriguez, Dave Barker, Susan Cadogan and Lee “Scratch” Perry.As an ex-member of both The Selecter and Bad Manners, Nick boasts an impressive pedigree - both as a live performer and as an accomplished songwriter - with Manners’ “Skaville UK”, “This Is Ska” and “Skinhead Love Affair” among his long list of compositions.
Nick began writing and recording as King Hammond in 1986 and released his debut album “Revolution 70” in 1989 to great critical acclaim. And while he has worked with many bands and collaborators in recent years - Jake Burns (Stiff Little Fingers), J.J. Burnel (The Stranglers) and Bruce Foxton (The Jam), to name a few - it’s as King Hammond he continues to write, record, create and innovate.
Today, King Hammond continues to tour the world, bringing his irrepressible passion for ska & reggae to global audiences. And with his own band, King Hammond & The Rude Boy Mafia, he brings the same passion, and inevitable joy to Rugby
