Kinesiology taping is a technique used in massage therapy to provide support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body's range of motion. It involves applying tape to the skin in specific patterns and tensions, based on the individual's needs and the desired outcome.
The tape's unique properties mimic the flexibility and elasticity of human skin, allowing it to move with the body while still providing targeted support. Kinesiology tape is often used to alleviate pain, reduce inflammation, improve circulation, and enhance proprioception (the body's awareness of its position in space).
Additionally, kinesiology taping can help correct muscle imbalances, facilitate proper movement patterns, and promote faster recovery from injuries. It is commonly employed by athletes, both during training and competition, as well as by individuals recovering from various musculoskeletal conditions.
Overall, kinesiology taping offers a non-invasive and versatile approach to optimizing physical performance, enhancing rehabilitation, and promoting overall well-being.
Participants need to dress in layers, including tank top and athletic shorts.
This course is designed to help massage therapy practitioners further understand the mechanics of body movement to apply kinesio tape to potentially help stabilize and/or decompress areas. The purpose is to understand the framework that is applied when using any tape.
DRESS: Please wear tank tops and shorts to class. Massage tables and water provided.
