Did you know that the project that sparked the idea for KindCraft came from Pinterest? A simple "pin" about making "no sew fleece blankets" led to all of this! We can hardly believe this will be our 11th year making blankets. Head to the store to pick out your favorite pattern fleece OR purchase one from KindCraft if you are flexible about what it looks like. This year's event will be held at the Central Resource Library. Register early because space will be limited.
You will need:
Fabric scissors (regular scissors will NOT work and will be very frustrating for kids
TWO pieces of coordinating fleece. The amount of fleece is dependent on the size you'd like to make.
Infant size blanket (TWO PIECES of coordinating fleece each 1 yard)
Child size blanket (TWO PIECES of coordinating fleece each 1.5 yards)
Teen/adult size blanket (TWO PIECES of coordinating fleece each 2 yards)
Large Group Registrations
KindCraft requires a minimum of 1 adult per 5 children group registration. There is a limit of 10 tickets per order. If your group has more than 10 attending, then you will need to register another adult KindCraft member for the remaining attendees.
Reminder: If you don't have a pair or two of fabric scissors, you may want to borrow or purchase some for this project. REGULAR SCISSORS DO NOT WORK. You and your children will end up very frustrated so PLEASE try to find some fabric scissors!
Please use the sign up genius link to choose where you would like your blanket to be donated. It doesn't matter if you are registered to attend our in person event on Dec 4th or if you are making one at home. We still need to know where you want your blanket to go.
We have two requests that we would love to fill. One is for The Shadow Buddies Foundation and the other is for All For Moms Foundation.
The Shadow Buddies Foundation
The Shadow Buddies Foundation will sprinkle some Christmas magic in early December and help terminally ill and medically challenged children receive Delta airline boarding passes to the North Pole. Accompanied by a parent, these children will board an airplane and be greeted by a pilot and his flight crew.
The flight will take off and fly over Kansas City for a little less than an hour while other family members and countless volunteers wait for them to land and enter the North Pole. Each child and their siblings receive a huge bag of toys from Santa and a special Shadow Buddy.
Shadow Buddies has asked KindCraft if we can make our no sew fleece blankets for this special event. Extra blankets will be given to the siblings.
If you are attending our in person event, we will deliver the blanket for you! If you are making blankets on your own, you have two choices for delivery. You can donate to The Shadow Buddies Foundation directly or you can drop off your blankets to KindCraft at 16072 S. Elmridge between December 1st through 3rd only.
Please sign up and indicate how many blankets you will donate. Each blanket takes at least an hour to do, less if you have more than 2 people working on the same blanket.
All For Moms Foundation
All For Moms mission is to improve mental health outcomes for struggling Moms and families by transforming cluttered homes and creating functional spaces to meet the unique needs of each family. They work with Moms who are experiencing stressful challenges in their lives that are impacting their ability to keep up with the needs of their family and home. The clients they work with receive a full-range of services. This includes a unique needs assessment, individual plan for resetting the home environment and resources for mental health services.
The blankets we make will go to mothers and babies in need. They have requested 12 blankets for moms and 12 blankets for kids. You can donate to All For Moms directly or you can drop off your blankets to KindCraft at 16306 S Burch Olathe, KS 66062 between December 1st through 3rd only).
