Psychic Dancehall presents … a night of electronic popKimber
Part of the roster at Safe Suburban Home, York duo Kimber (Mikey Wilson and Josh Heffernan) craft electronic indie with hints of Mount Kimbie in the woozy production, Beach House in the melancholic melodies and New Order with the dynamic basslines. There is an impressive looseness to their sound, with a ‘performed-not-programmed’ ethos, drawn from their passion for capturing an authentic human feel. Kimber’s music is neither austere electronica or the simple bounce of new-wave. It sits somewhere between the cracks. Following a run of acclaimed singles they release their debut EP at this show.
Pale Stranger
The side project of Paul Lynch from nautical prog jesters Seas of Mirth, Pale Stranger is an stunning example of electronic pop music with soul. One of the many “lockdown” projects to emerge, the recently released self debut album crept out without much fanfare but is one of best debuts this year. With an array of guest vocalists it brings a human warmth to a sometimes austere sound heavily inspired by Avery Tare, Bjork, Talk Talk DJ Shadow and 90s big beat. There have been few Pale Stranger shows to date, but if it matches the quality of the recorded tracks it is going to be special.

Al Bamfs
A pivotal part of Derby collective Year of Glad, Al Bamfs is one of the most exciting talents to emerge from the city in a while. With very little information available and only a handful of shows to date this is a rare chance to see Bamfs woozy tunes in action. 2021’s incredible EP Undetected contains myriad styles a blissed out haze of minimal rhythms and chiming guitars. It’s the Durutti Column playing with New Order at a 2020 illegal lockdown rave on a beach. Essential.

Emzae
Fresh from supporting Lonelady, and with incredible new single ‘Extraordinary’ recently released Emzae is at the height of her ever evolving powers. The latest single is pure electronic-pop taking Emzae in new directions and showcasing her vocal and songwriting talents. Live Emzae is regularly cited as one of the best new artists in the Midlands.
