About this Event
We will be meeting about 2pm at Forest Community Park in Baton Rouge. This park is located on S. Harrell's Ferry Rd. We will gather at the parking lot on the east side of the park behind the dog park and behind the tennis courts. I'll be driving my RV, so look for that.We will start with a bird walk for an hour or so. It's not the ideal time of day for a bird walk, so I'm not sure what we'll see, but we'll try.
But then, we're going to bioblitz! What is bioblitz, you ask? This particular weekend is the worldwide competition known as City Nature Challenge. People from around the world are competing in this challenge to identify every living thing in their area and document it with an app called iNaturalist. Baton Rouge is competing (sponsored by the LA Master Naturalist of Greater Baton Rouge) over the 4 day period of April 26-29. So for the second hour of our gathering, we'll look for things to put into iNaturalist...basically every plant, every bug, every reptile, every living thing we can find at the park this afternoon. I'll have iNaturalist on my phone and you can point out things for me to document, or any kids or grownups who have phones and the iNaturalist app can document as well. It's a treasure hunt!
