My name is Moana Kyle, and I am the founder of Blissful Souls Yoga. I’m thrilled to be sharing the benefits of yoga with your tamariki and rangatahi at AYU. I am a qualified yoga instructor with training in Kids’ Yoga, Teen Yoga, Hatha Yoga, and Yin Yoga. I’m also a Primary School teacher and a homeschooling mum to my 15-year-old son, Jack. I have experience working in special education and supporting neurodiverse learners, with a strong focus on inclusive teaching. My approach to both yoga and classroom education is grounded in the Te Whare Tapa Whā model, allowing me to take a holistic, well-rounded approach in all areas of my teaching.
What is Kids Yoga?
Kids Yoga is a playful, age-appropriate form of yoga designed specifically for tamariki. It combines traditional yoga poses with storytelling, games, music, and imagination to engage young minds and bodies in a fun and accessible way.
Key Features of Kids Yoga:
Movement + Play: Uses basic yoga poses adapted into games or stories (e.g., pretending to be animals or nature).
Mindfulness: Introduces simple breathing techniques, focus exercises, and relaxation methods to help kids manage emotions and stress.
Creativity: Includes songs, dance, drawing, or storytelling to make the experience more interactive and engaging.
Social Skills: Encourages cooperation, listening, and respect through group activities and partner poses.
Non-Competitive: Emphasises personal growth, body awareness, and self-confidence rather than performance or comparison.
Benefits for your Tamariki:
Improved flexibility, balance, and coordination
Better focus and concentration
Enhanced emotional regulation and calmness
Boosted self-esteem and confidence
Healthy habits for movement and mindfulness
Age Groups for Kids Yoga:
Our Kids Yoga classes will be tailored by age:
Younger kids (5–8 years): More structured poses with imaginative elements.
Older kids (9–12 years): Introduces more traditional yoga concepts with age-appropriate mindfulness and physical challenges.
What is Teen Yoga?
Teen yoga is a style of yoga specifically adapted for teenagers (typically ages 12–18), focusing on both the physical and emotional needs unique to that age group. It blends traditional yoga practices—like postures (asanas), breathwork (pranayama), and mindfulness—with a supportive, non-judgmental environment that helps teens manage stress, build confidence, and develop healthy habits.
Key Elements of Teen Yoga:
Physical Movement: Incorporates traditional yoga poses to build strength, flexibility, coordination, and body awareness.
Often includes dynamic sequences (like vinyasa flow) to match teens' higher energy levels.
Emotional Support: Emphasises self-acceptance, stress management, and emotional regulation.
Classes may include journaling, discussions, or mindfulness activities.
Breath & Mindfulness: Teaches breathing techniques to reduce anxiety and improve focus.
Introduces meditation and relaxation practices.
Safe, Non-Competitive Space
Promotes body positivity and self-esteem.
Encourages personal growth over perfection.
Community & Connection
Builds a sense of belonging and respect among peers.
Will include partner or group exercises that foster trust and communication.
Benefits of Teen Yoga:
Reduces anxiety, stress, and symptoms of depression
Improves focus, concentration, and academic performance
