For the artsy kids that are looking for more. They'll experiment with art, using collage, painting, and drawing to make their creations.
About this Event

For kids around 8-11 years old.

In school, kids get an introduction to art, learn basic techniques, and explore different media. This workshop takes a deeper dive into expressing themselves more freely. It's made for the kid who wants to be making art all the time.

Within a structured framework, they will be guided through various ways to combine media and encouraged to make artwork that expresses their individual artist spirit. Most kids sit down to make art and decide what the result will be before they begin. In this workshop, they will be encouraged to make from their heart instead of their heads. They will learn how to combine elements of collage, painting, and drawing to create their artwork that evolves as they go. Students will investigate what happens when various materials are assembled and how to handle unexpected moments that may arise.

The environment is supportive and nurturing to explore their creativity freely. Each child is given personalized attention and will have opportunities to talk about their artwork with me and other classmates. We will talk as a group and your child will have a chance to meet other kids with similar interests and creative passions. Lastly, they will approach the artwork as an experiment to forget about making something that needs to be perfect.

IN THIS CLASS THEY WILL

 • Be encouraged to view art-makng as a creative experiment, valuing the process over the final product.
 • Be introduced to the concepts of self-compassion and positive dialogue with inner critics in an age-appropriate way
 • Learn about the play between words and imagery in an artwork.
 • Observe results of combining materials with different foundations and finishes.
 • Get to know the different phases of making an artwork.
 • Exercise problem-solving skills.
 • Experience the joy of collaborative art-making, learning from peers in a community setting.
 • Foster a sense of community, encouraging them to share ideas and support each other’s creative journeys.

We will start the workshop by introducing ourselves and learning a little bit about each other by sharing artwork we have made in the past. From there we will define creative expression and what it feels like to follow your inner artist voice.

Students will each be given their own paper and art materials, though sharing and collaboration are encouraged. We will talk together as we work. Students are encouraged to finish their work but are also welcome to complete their piece at home. When making time is over, we will take time to share what they made with each other and talk about thier experiences.
