About this Event
Have you and the kids in your life ever wondered what those shiny award stickers on books mean? What makes a book an award winner, and who decides?
Join Bookmarks on February 8th to learn about awards given to picture books, early reader books, graphic novels, and middle grade fiction! Attendees will visit stations set up around the store to learn about the criteria for several awards and see past winning books, as well as engage in activities that focus on what makes a book stand out and become a best-loved addition to a home library. Families will vote on which books should win a Bookmarks "Karl"decott Award*, and kids will have the opportunity to create their own awards and determine which books should receive them.
Please join us for a fun and educational morning celebrating the books kids will love to read and share with others!
*Bookmarks' First Ever "Karl"decott Awards
One of our store mascots, Karl the Kraken, loves to hear suggestions of books that kids have loved to read and have read to them! So, this year, Bookmarks wants the Winston-Salem community to select winners for our first ever "Karl"decott Awards. When you register your family for this event, you will have the opportunity to nominate a book you feel is the best in each of four categories (picture books, early reader books, graphic novels, and middle grade fiction). We will compile a short list of nominees for attendees to vote on during the Kids' Lit Choice Awards Event. Please note that the deadline to nominate books is January 22nd, and the final list of nominees will depend on book availability.
