About this Event
Kids Create is an after school club for Primary and Secondary school age children. With school funding being cut for creative subjects, we at Arty Farty Retreat aim to bring back creativity into children’s lives. We aim to help your children express themselves, socialise and collaborate with their peers and learn new skills with different projects each week.
Exploring the World of Artist’s Books
In this exciting series of hands-on workshops, children will dive into the world of artist’s books—a unique and creative art form that blends storytelling, visual art, and bookbinding. Through these workshops, young participants will not only learn about the history and techniques of creating artist’s books but also have the chance to create their very own personalized pieces of art. The workshops are designed to inspire creativity, encourage self-expression, and introduce kids to the magic of combining text with imagery in an interactive, book-based form.
What are Artist’s Books?
Artist’s books are works of art that take the form of a book, but they often break away from the traditional idea of a book. They can be sculptural, interactive, or experimental, combining elements like drawings, collages, printmaking, and photography. Artist’s books are created by artists who explore the medium of the book as an art form—where the book itself is both the canvas and the message.
In these workshops, children will explore different types of artist’s books, such as accordion books, pop-up books, and tunnel books. They will see how artists use these books to tell stories, express emotions, or simply create something beautiful.
By engaging with artist’s books, children will not only have fun but also gain a deeper appreciation for the intersection of art and storytelling. The experience will help nurture their creativity and imagination, setting the foundation for lifelong artistic expression.
