Kids & Parents: Make a Rustic Stool

Stephen Ryan has 28 years of experience in professional woodwork, but his passion for woodcraft started from an early age. This workshop has been born from his childhood memories of making things from wood.
During this one-day workshop, you and your child will work together to make a rustic stool that can be used as a piece of furniture in your home, but most importantly the new skills learnt during the workshop will empower your child and give them confidence, through allowing the opportunity to use woodworking tools to create craft pieces that are often out of their reach. This workshop is best suited to children aged between 11 and 16 and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, who is prepared to get stuck in and work along with their child to create a family heirloom that can be enjoyed for generations to come.
During the day you and your child will both be using sharp handtools and some of the work can be a bit physical so please make sure your child is keen for the challenge. You and your child are both included in the price of one ticket.
This course is suited to all levels including complete beginners. As you will be working in a workshop environment, sturdy footwear is important. A good pair of boots is ideal and if you happen to have steel toe caps this would be even better. Open-toed or low-cut footwear is not suitable and may mean you cannot participate in the workshop. The tutor will supply safety gloves but if you have your own tight-fitting safety gloves feel free to bring them along, please also tie long hair back and remove jewellery that could get caught in equipment. These safety measures are to protect your hands and feet from cuts, to protect your feet from sharp and heavy tools and equipment being dropped and to stop your hair and jewellery getting caught in a drill or other pieces of equipment in the workshop. You must be aged 18 or over to attend this class as a parent or guardian. Workshop times are 10.00am to 5.00pm.
The workshop will be held at the Green Woodwork Ireland Workshop, Minnowburn. Workshops are non-refundable and non-transferable.
