In support of Earth Day & Arbor Day our nonprofit organization will be hosting our Kids and Parents Gardening nutrition workshop on Saturday April 5 2025 from 10:30am - 3:30pm at the Norcross Cultural Arts and Community Center. During this horticulture workshop both kids and their parents or guardian will learn the art of basic gardening. It's important that both children and adults understand how food is grown and how to obtain it efficiently and cost-effectively.
This workshop includes basic gardening for youth ages 5 to 12 and includes container gardening planting vegetables and learning about the life cycle of plants. Growing our own food enables us to harvest fresh nutrient-rich produce at a low cost. This can contribute to a healthier diet and encourage more fresh fruit and vegetable consumption. Many people believe salt and pepper add flavor to food; however herbs and spices provide food with flavor. Herbs and spices are also better for your heart health than salt and sugar.
Courtesy of our partners Lowes Home Improvement we will be providing all the seeds fruit and vegetable plants herbs and spice plants to the workshop participants. And yes all the vegetable fruit herb and spice plants are yours to keep. Representatives from Lowes Home Improvement will be in attendance offering gardening tips to children and their parents. This workshop is going to be fun for both kids and their parents and a bit messy with all the different types of soil we will be using.
During lunch break at 12noon we will be serving free catered lunch from Maggiano’s Little Italy restaurant to all attendees. We will be serving different menu items to include chicken dishes. Vegetarian meal options will also be available. During the lunch break we will also be hosting a plant fundraising sale. We will have a variety of perennials and other indoor and outdoor plants to decorate your garden. Perennials are very popular for growers because they are low maintenance and return year after year.
All the money we raise from our plant sale will be used to help fund our nutrition program to ensure its always free for kids.
We want to emphasize space is limited so we encourage you to reserve your seat today by completing the registration form and paying the $10 fee (Low-income families) which includes all the supplies materials and free catered lunch. Thank you Mrs. Candice Turner-Hoover Firm Administrator and The Law Offices of Gary Martin Hays & Associates for agreeing to help set up the meeting room space and serve lunch to the participants during the April 5th workshop. Spread the word and get ready for a day of fun learning and good food!
