Kids and Family Event: Foraging, Fungi, and Fun

Join us on June 24 at 10 a.m. for "Foraging, Fungi, and Fun," a hands-on mushroom foraging program designed for children and families! Led by experienced forager Melany Kahn, author of Mason Goes Mushrooming, this event combines outdoor exploration, education, and fun activities to inspire young minds.

🌳 What to Expect:

Tour Time: 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

Foraging: 45 minutes of hands-on mushroom hunting.

Education: 45 minutes of learning about mushroom species, their ecological roles, and safe foraging practices.

• A cooking demonstration featuring simple, kid-friendly mushroom recipes.
• A copy of Mason Goes Mushrooming included for every child participant!

Important Information:

• Tickets are required for all adults and children ages 3 and up.
• Children aged 2 and under are free but must stay with a parent.
• All necessary materials are provided.
• Please wear appropriate outdoor attire.

BIO

Melany Kahn is a second-generation mushroom hunter who learned foraging from her parents, the late abstract painter Emily Mason and landscape painter Wolf Kahn. A former film production professor at NYU, she has led educational foraging walks since 2002, teaching children and adults to identify and cook edible mushrooms. Melany is a member of the North American Mycological Association's Education Committee and serves on the board of Monadnock Mushroomers Unlimited. She holds a BA in English/Creative Writing from Wesleyan University, an MSW from Boston College, and an MFA in Film from NYU's Tisch School. Her debut children's book, Mason Goes Mushrooming, reflects her passion for nature and education.
