//TENZIN CHOPAK//
Tenzin Chopak (vocals, guitar, piano, double bass, cello), is an artist and songwriter based in Ithaca, NY. The son of a minister and an artist, and the brother of a fellow musician and songwriter Greg Horne, Tenzin learned to love music in his father’s church in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. He studied voice, piano, and guitar in his childhood and youth, frequently performing his original music publicly. In 1999, after some years of a burgeoning devotion to the study of Tibetan language and religion, he traveled to North India. It was during his eight month stay there that he was given the name “Tenzin Chopak”. For the following twelve years, while continuing his study of Tibetan in upstate, NY, Tenzin kept music a quiet if not hidden part of his life.
Chopak now performs and records simply under his name “Tenzin Chopak”, and is known for composing and performing music across the genres of roots and progressive chamber folk, world beat influenced rock, and experimental and improvisational music including analog electronica (Moog) and trance mixed with instruments such as cello, piano, double bass, acoustic/electric guitars and voice. Most commonly, he performs with guitar and voice.
//KIDBESS & THE MAGIC RING//
KidBess & The Magic Ring is a five-piece psychedelic rock band from upstate New York. Led by songwriter KidBess (Bess Greenberg), the Binghamton-based band pushes boundaries of genre, channeling the spirit of groups such Pink Floyd, and Jefferson Airplane, while maintaining their own timeless and innovative sound. Featuring powerhouse vocals, cello, two guitars, electric bass and drums, the band’s intoxicating blend of intimate introspective lyricism, sonic layering, textured sound effects, and resilient emotive strength have enabled them to carve out their own unique space within the contemporary collection of heart and mind-expanding music.
Greenberg’s raspy timbre, rooted in the bluesy tradition of Grace Slick and Janis Joplin, adds a layer of grit and intensity to the sound of their ethereal soundscapes, exhibiting a level of emotional depth and authenticity rarely seen in contemporary times — and at moments can be referred to as “poetic punk”; unified dynamics is where the band truly shines as a unit. The vocal is cradled, harmonized and complemented by the haunting brilliant swells of “The Magic Ring”: cellist Jeff McAuley, guitarist Joe Alston, bassist Mike Amadeo and drummer Moses Valle. The band weaves a textured web of emotive sonic waves that amplify Greenberg’s intimate genuine words; melted together, the sound will hold you close, rock your core and send chills down your spine.
Formed in 2022, the latest formation of KidBess & The Magic Ring has had a fortunate and momentous first two and a half years— performing at the Grassroots music festival in both Shakori Hills, North Carolina and in the Finger Lakes region in New York, Meadowlark Fest, The Great Blue Heron, Edinboro Arts Festival, Another World Fest and more.
The band recorded their debut EP “Electric Soul” with engineer Hunter Davidsohn of Business District Recording in Johnson City, NY. Produced by KidBess, engineered by Hunter Davidsohn, mixed by Joe Kollar & Hunter Davidsohn and mastered by D. James Goodwin; the 6 track EP was released on June 8, 2024-- and after a momentous summer, the band is excited to be back in the studio this winter at Abandoned Studios with engineer Michael Micha; new recorded singles are due to be released in Spring/Summer 2025.
