About this Event
Come join us at Transition Town Forres for a hands-on workshop where we will gather to learn and share tips at the start of another main growing season, so you'll be ready to hit the ground running and feel more confident in making good use of your veg growing space and your time out there. Our growing season here in the North of Scotland is short, so it's good to maximise our opportunities.
Green Shoots project workers Martin and Barney will facilitate this workshop. We'll be covering topics such as:
- What to sow when;
- What plants might need inside starts and when/if to plant them outside;
- Good varieties and sources of seeds and plants;
- Planning your growing space and beds;
- Crop rotation and Companion planting.
We'll be based inside the centre and spending time outside looking at examples and doing activities, weather permitting. Numbers are limited and early booking is advised. The workshop is aimed at adults alongside keen growers or foodies aged 15+.
Costs of this workshop are largely covered by the generous funding of the Newbold Legacy Trust - which supports our current workshop programme and other onsite sessions. You are welcome to leave a donation on the day towards general project running costs if you so wish.
Transition Town Forres's Green Shoots project works to raise awareness and build enthusiasm and skills around food growing and composting and their links to supporting personal health, biodiversity and tackling climate change. While we generally work with children, families and schools, these monthly themed workshops are an opportunity to reach further people in the community with our work, around a wide range of related topics.
