Glendale AZ Sister Cities is recognizing Memmingen’s 49 years of friendship and loyalty to Glendale, and we look forward to further strengthening this relationship with many more years of friendship and cultural exchange.

On September 19, 2025, Glendale AZ Sister Cities will introduce Glendale and its surrounding communities to Memmingen’s Original Bavarian Brass Band when we present “Kickoff to Oktoberfest” in true German tradition. As you probably know, the United States celebrates Oktoberfest in October, but in Germany, the celebration starts in late September.

Memmingen's Original Bavarian Brass band is a 22-member brass band, traveling to Glendale from Memmingen, Germany to play for you!

This unique event, “Kickoff to Oktoberfest,” will be held at the beautiful Glendale Civic Center in downtown Glendale on Friday, September 19, 2025, at 6 p.m. The cost to attend is only $45.00 (+Fees) and includes a German dinner buffet (1 Brat, 1 Schnitzel, 2 sides, tea or lemonade, and dessert). There willl also be a cash bar featuring German beer, wine and soda, music and dancing, as well as a 50/50 raffle.

This event will be a fundraiser to help us build a strong youth component to our program. One of the things we are passionate about is the internationally themed youth leadership conferences that are available every year to high school students. We want to be able to send local students to these conferences as well as other cultural opportunities.
