This year, on the 16th of October, KFEET turns 15! On October 16, 2010, the Karura Forest Environmental Education Trust (KFEET) was officially established by a consortium of 5 Trustees, brought together by the shared vision of educating the next generation about environmental stewardship and conservation. Our founding members included Jimmy Mugerwa (Shell Kenya), Prof. Wangari Maathai (Green Belt Movement), Alice Macaire (Friends of Karura Forest), D.K. Mbugua (Kenya Forest Service), and Rajesh Devchand Shah (Oshwal Education & Relief Board). Prof. Maathai was appointed the inaugural Chair of the Trust, and the Trustees appointed Rajesh Devchand Shah as Chair of the Managing Committee, tasked with overseeing and managing the operations of the new education center.
The bold dream to connect learners with nature was officially launched, with the mission being “to promote conservation of the environment, in particular forests and sustainable management of natural resources through education programmes”.
