Join us on March 7th as esteemed vocalist Kevin Whalum returns to Nashville for one night only for an evening of soulful contemporary jazz. Flanked by pianist David Rodgers, bassist Jay White, and drummer Marcus Finnie, this evening is not to be missed! The concert begins at 7:30pm CST (Doors open at 7:00pm).
About the show:
Kevin Whalum is a dynamic vocalist whose smooth, expressive baritone has captivated audiences across jazz, soul, gospel, and scat. Legendary jazz keyboardist George Duke once described his voice as "butter," a testament to its rich, effortless quality. The younger brother of renowned saxophonist Kirk Whalum, Kevin grew up in Memphis, deeply influenced by the musical legacy of Olivet Baptist Church, where his father was pastor. After earning a degree from Morehouse College, he balanced a career in pharmaceutical sales with music, performing in Chicago’s vibrant scene before relocating to Nashville.
His breakthrough came in 1997 when he appeared as a guest vocalist on The Gospel According to Jazz, Chapter 1, gaining recognition in the emerging Nashville soul movement. Making the leap to full-time musician, he became a sought-after live and session vocalist, known for his versatility and emotive delivery. In 2000, he independently released Timetable, a genre-blending debut album that reflected his passions for faith, family, and music. His talent caught the attention of industry heavyweights, leading to collaborations with George Duke and Rex Rideout on his 2008 release One Life to Love.
With a career spanning decades, Whalum continues to be a force in contemporary jazz and soul, bringing authenticity and depth to every performance.
