Sampsell will be discussing his book of poetry and collage I Made an Accident in conversation with Peruvian collage artist Enrique "Kike" Congrains. This event is free and open to the public. In 2014, after the release of his debut novel, celebrated writer and visionary publisher Kevin Sampsell switched gears and turned to a new creative obsession: making collage art. Initially influenced by the wild cutup language of William S. Burroughs, Sampsell soon discovered countless modern collagists that inspired him to take his art further and further from where it started. Years later, he finds himself at the center of a growing movement of 21st Century cut and paste.

I Made an Accident showcases over 200 of Sampsell's collages, exploring a range of styles: hilarious sight gags, subtle cultural jabs, elegant mysteries, colorful surprises, fragmented hauntings, and gloriously strange accidents. Combined with Sampsell's sharp and lively poems, this book is a feast for the eyes and brain and a nonstop entertainment.

Kevin Sampsell is a writer, publisher, collage artists, and bookseller in Portland, Oregon. He runs the small press Future Tense Books, and is also the co-curator of the international collage website, Sharp Hands Gallery. His collage art has appeared in various magazines including Kolaj, Black Candies, 7x7, Getrude Press, Chicago Quarterly Review, and elsewhere. He wrote thirty installments of the collage column, Paper Trumpets, for The Rumpus and has also taught and hosted collage workshops and gatherings around the Pacific Northwest. His previous books include the novel, This is Between Us, and the memoir, A Common Pornography.

Enrique "Kike" Congrains is a collage artist from Lima, Peru. He has shown his work in exhibitions in Peru, as well as Argentina, Spain, England, Hong Kong, and Norway at the Scandinavian Collage Museum. He’s the founder and curator of CollageWave, an annual show for established and emerging Peruvian collagists. He teaches collage workshops to underprivileged kids and is currently writing a book on Latin American collage.
