Life is full of unexpected ups and downs, illness, weather and other unexpected things can spoil the best made plans. We may sometimes have to change our guest at short notice, or even cancel an evening altogether. To avoid disappointment please re-visit the relevant night's event for updates *BEFORE* setting out.
*KERRIE WELLS
Kerrie had never been a proper folkie! She discovered some singing experience when she teamed up with her great friend Mike Nicholson before he became semi-professional, in her home territory darn sarth!
For the next 40 plus years, she did absolutely nothing musically, it had ceased to be a part of her life as family matters took priority. In 2002 she landed in Banbury in Oxfordshire, and within a matter of weeks had met people who introduced her to Banbury folk club, run by Derek and Mary Droscher. It really made her day, she went weekly, never performed, but loved to hear everything else, and still enjoys many lasting friendships there.
After a lot of soul-searching and general faffing, she finally decided to move to Sheffield in 2007. She didn’t know too many people, but had heard there was a folk club at the Princess Royal. Finally she plucked up courage to go there on her own, and those of you in the know will be aware that that is how she met Steve. The old insecurities were still there, and he encouraged her to try and make more of her own abilities, so she has tried to do so, influenced mainly by the music of Karine Polwart and Suzanne Vega, or attempting to cover any particular song she happened to like. She must acknowledge, very gratefully, the support she has had from two special people. They are, first, Hilary Blythe, with her invaluable singing workshops and personal advice, and Dave Childs, guitar tutor extraordinaire, who has provided valuable insights into how to bring a song into the public arena, and has said Enjoy!
Doors open 8:15, *PLEASE WAIT DOWNSTAIRS UNTIL CALLED*
Singers and musicians of all standards and styles are welcome to come along and do a short floor spot.
Free entry: Collection & raffle for guest.
