About this Event
Wrongly perceived by some as a poor cousin to Hampstead and Highgate. Up the road from noisy Camden Town. For London folk, it deserves an airing. From beginnings linked to St Pancras Old Church, through the days of country air being taken on the banks of the River Fleet, into industrialisation and the railways’ torturing of the area to delineate its shape today, plus ephemera such as the massing point for one of Oswald Mosley’s marches, Kentish Town is worth a gander.
Join LH Member Colin Davey, professional tour guide, historian, and Kentish Town resident, for a stroll around the High Road and beyond The morning will cover the centre. After lunch stop (make own arrangements, but plenty options) we will head up to the northern borders teetering on the edge of the Heath, passing what might be the only above ground evidence left of the River Fleet, and finishing mid-afternoon at a gem of a pub on Highgate Road that retails only from small independent breweries (easy access back to Kentish Town tube or to Overground).
Meet on Kentish Town Road directly outside Camden Town tube station, ready for an 11am prompt start. Cafes nearby for preliminary comfort stop. Stop for lunch* break at about 12.30. Finish by 3.30pm. Therefore total walking time around three hours. That's top value!
* cost of which not included in ticket price.
