Kenny Horst and Will Kjeer came up in very different eras of the Twin Cities music scene, but they share a strong musical bond as uncle and nephew. Horst began his career drumming as a sideman for a variety of rock and roll bands, but became known later as one of the best jazz drummers of his generation, playing extensively with the likes of Cedar Walton, David Hazeltine, Lee Konitz, Ira Sullivan, Mose Allison, Bill Carrothers, Lew Tabackin, Irv Williams, and the Peterson family, among many others. Will Kjeer played some of his first gigs at the Artist’s Quarter, which Horst ran for two decades until 2012. Kjeer recently completed an M.M. at the Juilliard School, and resides in New York pursuing a career as a pianist, composer, arranger and music director. Together they showcase a chemistry born of shared heroes and experiences, and rarely will you hear a better demonstration of the full and surprising span of what jazz has to offer in the state of Minnesota.
