The Kenai Watershed Forum is calling on residents, and concerned citizens to join a powerful day of dialogue, discovery, and direction at the Kenai King Initiative Community Forum. Set for Saturday, October 25th, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., this landmark event will gather a diverse range of voices to confront one of Alaska’s most urgent environmental and cultural challenges: the steep and continuing decline of Kenai River king salmon. The Kenai King Initiative was founded not only to investigate why the kings are disappearing but to ask what we can do, together, to restore and protect them.
This forum is not only a presentation of science; it’s a platform for listening. The insights, concerns, and priorities shared by the public will directly inform the next steps taken by the Kenai Watershed Forum and its partners. Every voice matters. Every story counts. The collective wisdom of this community is central to shaping restoration strategies, filling critical research gaps, and holding space for a future where king salmon thrive once again.
Participants will engage in presentations from experts, followed by facilitated discussions and working sessions. Attendees will help identify greatest concerns, most pressing unanswered questions, and highest priority need for research, needed policy changes and be given a chance to be engaged in task forces that work toward implementation.
Join us on October 25th. Speak up. Lean in. Help chart the path toward bringing the king salmon home.
