Keepers of the Great Grove ~ CUUPs1st Wednesday of the month, 6-7:30pm
Conference Room or Zoom at https://tinyurl.com/2nyj5zet
Join us for our monthly member-led meetings. Each month we will have a different enrichment topic. This is a time to share a practice, ritual, meditation, teaching, blessing, or other meaningful praxis with your community.
February will feature Blessings of Abundance which can be done as part of your inbolg ritual or at anytime you wish to bless and connect to the nature around you.
Orchard Wassailing is an old English tradition that typically took place mid January. Meant to ensure a bountiful crop. People would gather to sing and make loud noises to scare away evil spirits.
During the merrymaking, they would leave pieces of toast on or near the trees and pour the last of the winters cider over the roots. The “apple tree man” (the spirit of the oldest tree in the orchard, is thought to give good luck in exchange for the offering of cider.
Grain was a common offering to various gods throughout time. It’s an example of the combined fruits of the earth and human labor. Also easily adaptable whether it will be sacrificed as a burnt offering or shared as a ritual feast. We might make birdseed ornaments and popcorn/cereal garland to decorate outdoors to help the wildlife get through this stretch of winter. Of course this can be more easily done by spreading birdseed or buying a suet block but this is a time to enjoy the “craft” part of witchcraft. And in putting in effort we can add our hopes and expectations for the year to come.
CUUPs stands for Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans. All are welcome.
